Recognized as the number one orthopedic group in 2013 by Ranking Arizona, The Center for Orthopedic Research and Education, called The CORE Institute (CORE), was founded in 2005 to fulfill a vision of orthopedic excellence encompassing the entire spectrum of orthopedic sciences. Consistent with our mission, The CORE Institute delivers the best in musculoskeletal healthcare, built upon a foundation of pioneering research, academics, community service, and a passion for excellence in patient care. It is now the premier orthopedic destination center in the United States and cares for patients from around the world. Nearly eight years ago, founding physicians, Dr. John A. Brown, Dr. Mark D. Campbell and Dr. David Jacofsky brought their expertise to provide Arizona residents best-in-class orthopedic care. Since then, The CORE Institute has delivered orthopedic care to hundreds of thousands of patients from the United States and around the world and has grown to over 100 providers and over 400 employees between Arizona and Michigan. Their documented, superior patient outcomes are ensured by a unique and dedicated Quality Department, which sets the benchmark in orthopedic care through evidence-based medicine and standardized protocols. The Porretta Center for Orthopaedic Surgery (Now The CORE Institute) is a team of board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeons dedicated to providing excellent care for a wide range of orthopedic problems. The practice is one of the first Orthopaedic practices of Providence Hospital, established in 1959 by Dr. Charles Porretta. The Porretta Center for Orthopaedic Surgery prides itself on the ability to provide both general orthopedic surgical care, as well as treatment of complex musculoskeletal conditions, orthopedic diseases, and sports medicine through advanced subspecialty training and surgical expertise. As key faculty members of the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at the Detroit Medical Center/Providence Hospital site, the surgeons at the Porretta Center remain active academically and are committed to supporting orthopedic research and scholarly activity.
Mitchell Wagner, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Premier Orthopedics (Now The CORE Institute), is a board certified orthopedic surgeon and the Founder and Medical Director of Premier Orthopedics of Arizona, which he opened in early in 2011 after practicing with a large local orthopedic group since 1999. He has expertise in orthopedic joint reconstruction, specifically of the knees, shoulders, and hips affected by diseases such as osteoarthritis, and acute and chronic injuries.
Broken Bone Dr (Now The CORE Institute). Joseph Scoggin, MD is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. His general orthopedic practice includes adult and pediatric fracture care, sports medicine and arthroscopy, and joint replacement. He is on staff at Banner Desert Medical Center, Cardon Children's Medical Center, and Arizona Orthopedic Surgical Hospital.

Excellence Headquarters is developing a national network of Managed Practices, modeled around a non-traditional group practice structure that drives enterprise value. The Managed Practices are managed by a professional executive management team that includes your existing administrative team and provides them, growth opportunities supported by a sophisticated business and operational infrastructure. The executive team has proven abilities to achieve significant operating efficiencies in providing administrative support systems, interacting with physicians, hospitals and third-party payors, managing information systems and technologies, and facilitating oversight of compliance with laws and regulations. The management platform and infrastructure address the administrative demands and cost containment pressures from a number of sources, principally commercial and government payors, that make it increasingly difficult for physicians to effectively manage patient care, plan for new payment reform, manage quality and track outcomes, remain current on the latest medical knowledge and efficiently administer non-clinical activities. As a result, we believe that physicians remain receptive to being affiliated with larger organizations that reduce administrative burdens, achieve economies of scale and provide value-added clinical research, education and quality initiatives, especially in a model where equity value is truly created for the providers. By relieving many of the burdens associated with the management of a group practice, we believe that our practice administration services permit our Managed Practices to focus on providing quality patient care utilizing a proprietary IT platform to improve and track outcomes and increase volumes and our trademarked Excellence Through Evidence Program. This system, which includes standardized evidence based and proven order sets, patient education materials, and clinical pathways, contributes to improving patient outcomes, ensuring appropriate length of hospital stays, improving profitability, and reducing long-term health system costs.
